BNN offers you a selection of cultural events in Lithuania for the week between January 18 and January 24.

January 18-24:

Exhibition «Man with the face of Sauka»; National Gallery of Art (http://www.ndg.lt/en.aspx), Konstitucijos pr. 22, Vilnius;

Painting exhibition of painter Šarūnas Sauka «Man with the face of Sauka» is opened. More than 100 works created in the period 1978-2015 are shown there. For the first time, apart from paintings on linen, the audience is presented with precisely painted grass objects.

January 19-24:

International Theatre Festival for children «Different 16» («Kitoks 16»); Arts Printing House (http://www.menuspaustuve.lt/en/), Šiltadaržio g. 6, Vilnius;

Arts Printing House will become the biggest playground in Vilnius – festival for children «Kitoks» will take over the venue. The program includes performers from France, Canada, Finland, Sweden and the premieres presented by two Lithuanian troupes will be shown.

January 21, 7.30 pm:

Honour of Kaunas Art Creator Association’s Prize Winners; Kauno menininkų namai (http://www.kmn.lt/en/titlepage), Putvinskio g. 56, Kaunas;

The best art creators in Kaunas will be awarded Kaunas Art Creator Association’s prizes. Among the distinguished are camera man Laisvis Karvelis, poetess Erika Drungytė and composer Giedrė Dabulskienė;

January 21-24:

French Film Festival «Winter Screens»; Vilnius cinema theatres;

All films of this year’s winter screens are intended for a family. The theme of a family is very important to film creators who create about themselves and their surrounding world.

January 22, 8 pm:

Concert of Kings of Leon Tribute; Punto Jazz Palepė (http://puntojazz.lt/), Kęstučio g. 6, Kaunas;

For a couple of years now, the project of Kings of Leon tribute has been successfully gathering nice-size crowds in the largest Lithuanian cities and smaller towns. All kinds of tunes send the crowds into frenzy.

January 23, 2.30 pm:

Staging of war scene «Retreat of French Army from Moscow»; Lietuvos Liaudies Buities Muziejus (http://www.llbm.lt/eng/), L. Lekavičiaus g. 2, Rumšiškės, Kaišiadorys district;

The actors from War History Clubs in Lithuania, Poland and Belarus will be retreating through the museum’s forests and villages; around 40 French army garment-clad and gun-brandishing soldiers will try to identically repeat the French army’s withdrawal in 1812-1813;

January 22-24:

Tourism exhibition «Adventur 2016»; Exhibition and Convention Centre «Litexpo» (www.litexpo.lt),

Laisvės pr. 5, Vilnius;

Adventur is the only one international exhibition of tourism, travel and active leisure in Lithuania devoted to promoting tourism services and active lifestyle. Theme of Adventur 2016 – City break. How to win the sympathy of tourists, increase tourist flows and stand out in a competitive environment.

January 21-24, 7 pm:

Vilnius Comedy Fest; Concert Hall Compensa (http://www.compensakoncertusale.lt/en/apie), Kernavės g. 84, Vilnius;

Vilnius holds the second Comedy Fest, an international professional comedy festival, in Lithuania. The festival brings together enthusiasts of good humour and spreads a good mood. The programme includes performers from Lithuania, Great Britain, Canada, France and Spain.

January 23, 9 pm:

Concert of legendary band «Vairas»; Pub- Music Club Juonė Pastogė, Aušros al. 31A, Šiauliai;

Legendary band «Vairas» is again about to tug the heartstrings of the band’s old and new fans. The hottest songs from the 1990s and the newest songs will get the crowd swaying in delight;

January 24, 7pm:

Humour Show «Affairs of former women. My best bachelor night»; Klaipėdos Koncertų salė (http://www.koncertusale.lt/en/), Šaulių g. 36, Klaipėda;

Actors Mantas Stonkus and Justinas Jankevičius are hotties, but few can resist their charm when they start talking about women. Watch out: the two are being chastised for vulgar language in the shows…

Cargo volumes handled by Latvian ports remain stable in first half-year of 2018

Latvian ports transshipped 43.468 million tonnes of cargoes in the first eight months of 2018, which is 0.9% more than in the same period of last year. According to data from Transport Ministry, cargo turnover’s negative balance continues declining at Ventspils port, where 13.274 million tonnes of cargoes were transshipped in the first eight months, which is a drop of 11.9%.

airBaltic carried 18% more passengers in summer

Latvian airline airBaltic has carried 2,770,047 more passengers to destinations in Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, CIS and the Middle East in the first eight months of 2018, BNN was told by the company.
