Baltic news, News from Latvia, BNN-NEWS.COM, BNN-NEWS.RUIn the first five months of 2011, Latvia Enterprise Register (ER) has registered twice a many companies as in the same period in 2010. About 1 535 Ltd. companies were registered monthly from January to late May, compared to 999 Ltd. in the corresponding period a year ago.

Whereas, the number of little capital LTd. companies hits 1 075 a month, which means the number of the past year has doubled, according to the ER.

All in all, 6 243 new subjects have been registered in the EU and Commercial register this year, which is twice a many as in 2010 with 3 246.

Numbers have been surging also in the ER regional branches, with 433 companies registered in Valmiera and 262 in Jekabpils, compared to 244 and 127 in 2010, respectively.

«This does not mean sudden flourish of business activities, it is rather active re-structuring. Currently, huge numbers of little capital Llt. companies are being registered. Although I do not want to sound pessimistic, I believe most of them will have to liquidated in future,» says Ringolds Balodis, Chief State Notary.
