U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo shakes hands with Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu
Estonian and American top diplomats have agreed to enhance cooperation between the two allied countries in a joint statement signed in Washington.
Estonian public broadcaster ERR reports that the document was signed on Tuesday, October 8, when Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu (Pro Patria party) met with this U.S. counterpart Mike Pompeo, while on a working visit to the U.S.
The statement expressed willingness to deepen cooperation between Estonia and the U.S. in transatlantic and regional security, cybersecurity, the Three Seas Initiative, and the protection of religious freedom.

«The main directions in Estonia’s foreign policy include bolstering relations with the United States and reinforcing NATO as well as encouraging further cooperation between the European Union and the United States,» Reinsalu explained. «Considering the changing circumstances in the world, the unique transatlantic bond between the United States and Europe is the most solid support for ensuring our security and protecting our values.»
In the document, the NATO allies reaffirmed their commitment to NATO’s collective defence and the need to further strengthen the military organisation.
