Mayor of Jurmala Gatis Truksnis

The Jurmala City Council on Thursday, 9th September, decided to appoint Jurmala’s former Executive Director Gatis Truksnis as the Chairman of the Council.

Eight deputies voted on G. Truksnis assignation to the Jurmala’s Mayor post, while on the other possible candidate to the mayor post – Romualds Razuks (Romualds Ražuks) from party PS – seven deputies, reports LETA.

Truksnis (born in 1969) studied in Jelgava Secondary School No.1 and Jelgava Music School. He has graduated University of Latvia (LU) Foreign Language Faculty, specializing in the English language and literature. Later on, he acquired a law science BA in LU Faculty of Law.

From year 1990 to 1992, Truksnis was the project director at SIA Alternative, from 1993 to 1998 – the President of company SIA Akkura. From year 1998, he was the purchase specialist at Riga City Council Financial Department.

In addition, Truksnis worked as a lawyer at the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), and also fulfilled the member obligations at the local government SIA Jūrmalas siltums Board.

From 2004-2009, he was the Executive Director of the City of Jurmala.

From 1999, Truksnis was a member of Jelgava club Rotary, and from 2000-2002 worked as a secretary in this club.

It was announced that on Thursday, 9th September, the deputies of Jurmala City Council dismissed Romualds Razuks from the Jurmala Mayor post. Razuks held the position only for few months.

Razuks was appointed as the Chairman of the Jurmala City Board approximately three and a half months ago, on May 20th, when Raimonds Munkevics (party Jūrmala – mūsu mājas) was suspended from the Mayor post, as he was allegedly accused of bribery.
