Latvian government supports postponing Riga City Council’s snap elections until 6 June

Latvia’s Cabinet of Ministers decided to support Environment Protection and Regional Development Ministry’s proposal to postpone Riga City Council snap elections until 6 June.

Signature collection for a referendum on municipal snap election regulations fails

According to provisional results from the Central Election Commission, it has not been possible to collect enough signatures to initiate a referendum over Saeima’s approved changes to municipal snap elections regulations.

Initiative registered to reduce the number of Saeima deputies to 50

On Tuesday, 14 January, the Central Election Commission registered a proposal that suggests reducing the number of Saeima deputies from 100 to 50, CVK reports.

CVK urges government to allocate around 915 000 euros for signature collection

After performing estimates, Latvia’s Central Election Commission sent a letter to Finance Ministry and the Cabinet of Ministers with a request to provide funding of EUR 914 870 for the organization of signature collection for a referendum in relation to legislative drafts halted by the state president, as reported by CVK representative Laura Zaharova.
