Saeima decides: unemployment benefit to be paid for eight, not nine months

From 2020 onward unemployment status will be provided and benefits paid for eight months instead of nine, BNN was told by Saeima’s press-service.

More than one-third of orphans in Latvia don’t want to be adopted

Currently of the 1 175 orphans in Latvia, 431 children do not want to be adopted. This means it is possible to adopt 571 children. Of them, 377 are aged ten to 18 years, as reported by Welfare Ministry’s Communication Office head Aiga Ozoliņa.

Latvia’s Welfare Minister Ramona Petraviča supports the idea to open Latvia’s labour market to citizens of third countries. This position was voiced by the politician on Thursday, 10 October, during an open meeting of the Agriculture Organizations Cooperation Council.
